Failed government contracts and budget embezzlement: "Ambulance King" Yevgeniy Fridman detained in Moscow
Major Russian Businessman Yevgeniy Fridman, a United Russia Figure, "Ambulance King," and MMA Promoter, Arrested in Moscow on Embezzlement Charges.
Yevgeniy Fridman is the founder of the Phoenix Group of Companies (which includes Novoskor, Unelab, Medtrans, Phoenix-Management, Phoenix-Logistics, and the National Medical Holding Management Company). The group pioneered the Russian medical outsourcing market by leasing ambulance vehicles along with drivers to state-run hospitals. Fridman’s companies were inundated with government contracts to provide medical transport for healthcare facilities in Perm, Berezniki, Yekaterinburg, Ufa, and Tyumen. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he also supplied hospitals with medical masks on a non-competitive basis.
As the "Ambulance King," Yevgeniy Fridman became a prominent figure for United Russia and headed the Perm Krai branch of the OPORA public organization.
However, his companies soon began facing difficulties: missed shift schedules, constant delays in ambulance dispatch, and driver wage arrears. The situation compelled the Prosecutor’s Office and the FSB to intervene, while the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) placed Fridman’s key legal entities on its "blacklist."
Additionally, claims were filed against his structures by tax authorities, Ministry of Health agencies, and various service providers.
In response, Fridman relocated all his offices to Moscow, where he also became a co-founder and CEO of the company LLC "Generation." The company’s primary focus is developing the mixed martial arts (MMA) industry.
