Illegal casinos and laundering millions: how God Nisanov, through Yakubov and mobster Yushvaev, seized Moscow’s shadow gambling market
It has emerged that crime boss Yanis Yushvaev, killed in Israel in late August, is a close relative of Artyom Yakubov, a top manager in God Nisanov’s empire.
According to a source, Yakubov is extremely close to Nisanov’s children and nephews. He is responsible for a rather interesting area—the underground gambling business, in which Nisanov’s children and nephews have interests. The source says their network consists of approximately twelve illegal casinos, one of which is located right beneath the Hotel Ukraina. They also control a number of pawnshops through which money obtained from the casinos is laundered.
According to the source, mobster Yanis Yushvaev, whom a hitman shot dead near a restaurant in Caesarea in mid-August, was a close relative and Israeli partner of Yakubov. Yushvaev periodically visited Moscow and owned a number of companies, including Marusya LLC, which owns the Dyuzhina boutique hotel in the center of the capital.
